Kerala
offers great opportunities for wildlife enthusiasts to discover
its wild with vast expanses of green forests rich in flora and fauna.
Every district in this small state of Kerala preserves the natural
habitats of the forest in its own way. One could find the wild animals
and birds either in the well-maintained zoos or wandering in the
green of the forest. Kerala has 12 wildlife sanctuaries and two
national parks, where one could find these wild animals and birds
wandering fearlessly. Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, Idukki Wildlife
Sanctuary, Thakkekad Bird Sanctuary and the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary
are some of them.
Streams,
rivers and lakes are abundant in these forests which cover the hilly
regions in the State. This makes ideal condition for trekking through
the wild, though trekking is allowed only at select places. Then,
there are the beautiful tiny hillocks situated amidst dense forests
that could be reached only by means of trekking. This could be categorized
as adventure tourism for most of the trekking trails pass through
dense forests inhabited by wild animals.
SITC
offers accommodation, transportation and trekking facilities at
almost all wildlife destinations in Kerala. Elephant and Horse rides
are also provided at select places.
